Hey there Little Red Riding Hood

CLOSED TO LILY and BEN until the aftermath

Alex had done what he could to warn others to stay out of the halls. He had no way of knowing if Ben was going to be able to keep him in his cabin, but he was hopeful... he had to be hopeful. The last thing he wanted was to hurt anyone because he'd been unable to take proper precautions.

All those thoughts, however, had begun to flee his mind as he'd slowly given over to the beast at its most feral. He'd changed and with that change came the lust for blood and fighting; everything that was at the most base of his desires.

He was approximately two and a half times larger than his natural counterpart, bodied more like a mature tiger than a leopard, but retained all the agility that he would if he were smaller.

And then he'd succeeded in managing just what he'd been trying to avoid; he'd attacked and ultimately gotten past the werewolf and was now stalking the halls of the Black Tide, searching for the one thing that would satiate him... blood. Blood already flecked his muzzle and paws from the successful it he'd made on Ben while escaping, but it wasn't enough; not by far.

He pads on silent feet through the halls, cupped ears flicking this way and that and whiskers fanning widely as he scents for anything that might entice him.

You know what Lily loves? Reading.

Now that she reads at her grade level, she's checking books out of the library like it's her job. Books about everything. Plants, animals, machinery, you name it. She's especially interested in history, namely Al-Hebb. That's where her kinda-dad is from, so it makes sense that she be familiar with it!

She'd just pulled a book off the shelf when she checks her communicator and hears Alex's post on the network. Lily Worth knows by now that when someone asks you to stay away in an earnest tone like that, you stay the fuck away. She quickly pockets her communicator, tucks the book under her arm, and hightails it out of there.

... But she's too late. Alex has already broken out of his room. He's already prowling around the halls. And Lily runs right into him.

She freezes, roughly twenty feet away. Lily doesn't know whether this is Alex or not, but what she does know is it's got blood on its paws, and that means it's dangerous. She drops her book on the deck and slowly raises her hands to show she's unarmed.

Lily tries not to fight unless she has to. But if this thing attacks...

"Hey," she says, smiling shakily. "Are you a passenger? D'you know what I'm saying?"

The good news is this big-ass cat can talk. The bad news is it wants to play. Lily takes a few cautious steps back, leaving her book lying on the deck. She has a feeling that running would just goad him into chasing her, but it's a better option than just strolling away at a leisurely pace. Lily glances over her shoulder quickly, checking her escape route, then looks back to Alex. Can she outrun a giant cat like this? Lily might be faster, but Alex's strides would be longer. He'd catch up quickly, and... then what? Maul her? Eat her? That wouldn't end well, for either of them.

Wasn't she just telling Geralt that not all non-humans are bad? Alex, you've ruined everything.

"I'm not really in a playing mood," Lily says, laughing nervously and stepping back one more time. "Can I ask where all that blood on your paws came from?"

Truth be told, Lily has seen scarier (which is pretty depressing when you think about it). She did expect Alex to jump that far, but she didn't expect he'd do it so fast. She springs back just in time, with Alex so close that Lily can feel his breath on her face as his jaws snap shut. Though his teeth miss, his claws catch her left arm, and they carve four long, ugly gashes into her skin. To Lily, it's just a flesh wound. Her reasoning is, if she can't see through to her bone in a wound, 'tis but a scratch.

Still hurts like a motherfucker, though.

Running is no longer an option. Alex is far too close for Lily to escape without a fight. If he wants a fight, then fine. They'll fight. Until Lily can escape, at the very least. Lily doesn't have much experience in fighting leopards, but she sure knows how to fight bears and chipmunks. It's amazing how many creatures are susceptible to a punch in the face. Lily ain't a thinker, but in battle, you don't need to think. You need to act.

So she swings her fist at Alex's jaw in an uppercut. Her left arm might be injured, but her right arm sure isn't.

Oh, great.

If Lily's arm weren't injured, she might have gotten it out of the way in time. But it is, and she didn't, and now Alex's jaws are closing around it in a vice grip. She screams, a high-pitched shriek, as she feels her bones snap between Alex's teeth. It's been a long time since she's been hurt this bad. Her high tolerance for pain has been whittled down to half of what it was. And when she thinks it can't get any worse, Alex tosses her down the hall in a wide arc.

But she isn't stunned. Lily's mind is as sharp as it was when the battle began. This is what she was trained to do. This is what she was made to do. While she loathes her roots, they definitely come in handy sometimes. Like a cat, she rights herself in the air and lands on her feet, her heels skidding back on the deck. Her left arm hangs uselessly at her side, pouring blood. Steam rises from her wounds as her body begins to heal, but with just half of her regenerative power, an injury like this could take hours, maybe days to mend.

The chipmunks were child's play. This is a fight. And Lily hates to admit it, but it's actually fun. She hasn't been in a good fight in a very long time, and Alex is a worthy opponent.

She takes a few precious seconds to assess his weaknesses. Where are the kill spots on a leopard?

"Is that all?"

Funny thing about pain is, the body can get used to anything. Bennett? Bennett's finally gotten used to the pain of where Alex tore through a tendon on his hind leg earlier. The only problem is that... the leg kind of crumples when he puts weight on it, and so he's left hobbling as fast as he can possibly stand to try and track down Alex. He half-hopes Alex will come hunting for him, considering the slight trail of blood he's leaving behind.

That's when he hears Lily's scream, and from close, too-- he only has to turn a few corners before finding the damn werecat and his pseudo-sister.

He snarls out a threat and approaches, slowly, moving between Alex and Lily.

She could go for the eyes. That would be easiest. Lily could easily hop up on the were-leopard's back when it pounces, gouge out its eyes and watch it stumble. That sounds... entertaining.

Lily braces herself to leap, but her concentration is broken by the arrival of a... wolf? She blinks, confused, but doesn't let down her guard. This wolf could be just as dangerous as the leopard. She watches it closely, ready for another fight--but the wolf is docile when stops between Lily and the Alex. It's large, and it's scary, and it's... bleeding. It's bleeding a lot.

It finally dawns on her that this wolf is Ben. Ben said he was a werewolf, right? Is tonight a full moon? Has to be. She's about to ask when Alex speaks first, and at that, she narrows her eyes.

"Your kill?" she asks, inching forward. "Good luck, kitty-cat."

Oh, great. The cocky little kitty-cat talks. Sure, just... remind Ben how imperfect of a werewolf he is. That's fun.

He rolls his eyes and tosses his head with a snort of frustration. Your kill? he wants to say. Please. Lily is the chipmunk murdering queen.

He can't do much more than stand between Lily and Alex and snarl, though. He's not going to make the first move here.

Ben crouched down, leaning into Alex's lunge and bracing for the blow. He wasn't going to try and overpower the beast, no, that would be stupid. He feels the hit connect, claws sinking into his side...

... and he rolls, kicking at the beast to dislodge him, and, ideally, throw him some distance away.

The minute Alex is off, Bennett's back up, limping between Lily and anything that could be perceived as danger.

Lily would think this was totally fucking awesome under any other circumstances.

She watches the wolf go down, and she's tensed and ready to help before Ben is tossing Alex aside. Just a few seconds ago, she was in it to win it, ready to fight Alex to the death (his death, that is), but now she has a new goal: get Ben to see a damn doctor. Lily can bleed for hours before she dies, but what about Ben? How long can he fight like this?

"Ben!" Lily calls, jogging forward. Man, it would be so embarrassing if this wolf wasn't Ben. Her eyes flicker up to Alex for just a second before she looks back to Ben. "Ben, we gotta get you outta here. You're hurt. And bleeding. A lot."

Says the girl who can't even move her arm from how injured it is.

Bennett figures it out when the cat starts hissing more abuse. Odd that an articulate creature would still be so... animal in its behavior. Mindless drive to hunt is going to be easy to counter with a bit more level-headed intelligence.

Or, at least, a little agility.

The leopard closes in, and Ben, again, leaps up and into the attack, countering from below. Claws catch him in the shoulder, but Ben's got his jaws around Alex's throat. He bites into the cat's leathery flesh and the two go toppling end over end, crashing into another wall. Ben absolutely refuses to let go.

Lily waits for just a second, making sure Alex is dead, then rushes to Ben's side. His leg has been badly damaged, and there are clawmarks and bitemarks all over his torso, many of them bleeding profusely. Lily doesn't know how long Ben will last, or even if he'll heal quick enough, so she grabs him by his least injured arm and gives him a good tug.

"We need to go. Now. You gotta see Kenna. Can you walk?"

If not, Lily could just drag him all the way.
